Atlanta Eats: Dessert Edition

I have a sweet tooth, for sure. I am one who says, "There is always room for dessert." When I am not baking sugary creations at home, I am on the hunt for the perfect sweet treat, wherever I am. Pick a city, state, or country that I've visited and ask me what dessert you should try and I will serve you a stellar suggestion. Here are a few of my favorite sweets from some spots in Atlanta.

Five Daughters Bakery

This "croissant-style 100 layer doughnut" (aka cronut) is flaky, sweet, comes in a variety of staple- and seasonal flavors, and sometimes has a rich, creamy filling. If there's a Five Daughters around, I am definitely indulging in this decadent treat. I love their staple flavors: The Purist and King Kong. Recently, I had their seasonal Triple Raspberry (pictured) and it was scrumptious.

Rita's Ice

Ever since I tasted my first gelati (layers of Italian ice and frozen custard) --I think I was 18--, I've been hooked. Creamy, thick vanilla custard combined with fresh cherry Italian ice is my jam. The combination of textures and flavors is heavenly. You simply can't beat this cold treat on a hot summer day, especially after a long hike.

Cinnaholic Vegan Bakery

The "original, gourmet cinnamon roll bakery" offers over 20 unique flavors that you can combine with fresh and decadent toppings. Craft your own sweet creation or choose from their best-selling signature rolls: Old Skool, Cookie Monster, Campfire S'Mores... I love their Caramel Apple Pie (pictured): caramel topping, fresh apples, pecans, and pie crumble. So good, and good for you. Surprisingly, all of Cinnaholic's goodies are fresh-baked, 100% vegan, dairy & lactose-free, egg-free and cholesterol-free.

Insomnia Cookies

Is there anything more comforting or satisfying than a warm, gooey, chocolatey chocolate chip cookie? Chocolate chip cookies are my ultimate dessert comfort food. Like my lobster roll obsession, I've tried lots of "famous" chocolate chip cookies and know that not all cookies are created equal. So, if you have an Insomnia Cookie nearby, do yourself a favor and check 'em out. I discovered them while I was living in NYC and every time I was near one, I had to stop in for a melty, yummy cookie. My love, Jerry (who knows how much I love their cookies), had cookies and milk delivered to me when we were in a long-distance relationship. Super sweet, (literally!) right? They also have yummy ice cream cookie 'wiches and cakes.
